Ioco Road Utility Upgrades Project
Ioco Road is an important travel corridor that provides access to the nearby communities of Anmore and Belcarra as well as popular recreation areas such as White Pine Beach and Buntzen Lake. Much of the utility infrastructure along the corridor is nearing the end of its service life and needs major repair or replacement. To address this, the City of Port Moody is moving ahead with Phase 1 of the Ioco Road Utility Upgrades Project, part of a long‑term, multi‑phase program to replace underground utilities beneath Ioco Road. As this work is completed, the City will also make surface‑level improvements where possible to improve safety and travel along the corridor.
Phase 1
Phase 1 covers the section of Ioco Road between First Avenue and April Road as shown on the map below. This phase includes the following work:
- repairing storm and sanitary sewer infrastructure
- improving drainage to better manage stormwater and reduce impacts to nearby creeks during rain events;
- resurfacing the roadway and adding new curbs; and
- constructing a new multi‑use pathway (MUP) to enhance safety and travel for all users, provide a connection to future planned active transportation upgrades along First Avenue, and fill an identified gap in the Regional Greenways 2050 Plan (Metro Vancouver’s plan for a network of recreational multi-use paths for cycling and walking that connect residents to large parks, protected natural areas and communities to support regional livability).

Environmental considerations
Protecting the natural environment is an important part of the Ioco Road Utility Upgrades Project, as work is taking place near creeks and environmentally sensitive areas along the corridor. Key environmental considerations include:
- Protection of nearby creeks and fish habitat
Work near Mossom Creek and Schoolhouse Creek will include environmental protection measures and drainage improvements to help protect waterways and fish habitat. - Reducing impacts during construction
Measures will be put in place to prevent soil, debris, and muddy water from washing into nearby creeks, helping to protect water quality and the surrounding environment. - Stormwater management improvements
Upgrades will improve how rainwater is managed in the area, reducing runoff impacts on nearby creeks.
