An election by voting is to be held to elect one (1) Mayor, six (6) Councillors, and two (2) School Trustees. The following persons are candidates for each office. Elector organization affiliations are shown in brackets.

Voting dates and locations

General Voting Day

General voting day will be Saturday, October 17, 2026, between 8:00am and 8:00pm at the following locations:

Elector registration

If you are not on the list of electors, you may register at the time of voting by completing the application form available at the voting place and making a declaration that you meet the requirements to be registered as set out below:

Resident electors:

To register as a resident elector you must:

• be 18 years of age or older on or before General Voting Day;
• be a Canadian citizen;
• be a resident of British Columbia for at least six (6) months immediately before the day of registration (at time of voting);
• be a resident of the City of Port Moody on the day of registration (at time of voting); and
• not be disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law.

Non-resident property electors:

To register as a non-resident property elector you must:

• be 18 years of age or older on or before General Voting Day;
• be a Canadian citizen;
• be a resident of British Columbia for at least six (6) months immediately before the day of registration (at time of voting);
• be a registered owner of real property in the City of Port Moody for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration (at time of voting);
• not be entitled to register as a resident elector; and
• not be disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law.

In addition:

• Non-resident property owners must be the registered owner of the property, either as joint tenants or tenants in common, and not holding the property in trust for a corporation or another trust.
• If there is more than one individual owner of the property, only one of those individuals may register as a non-resident property elector, and they must have written permission from the majority of owners before registering.

In addition, in order to register at time of voting:

Resident electors must produce two (2) pieces of identification (at least one with a signature). Picture identification is not necessary. The identification must prove both residency and identity.

Non-resident property electors must produce two (2) pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) to prove identity, proof that they are entitled to register in relation to the property, and, if there is more than one owner of the property, written consent from the other property owners.

Mail ballot voting

Requesting a mail ballot package:

All qualified Port Moody residents and non-resident property electors who wish to vote by mail must apply for a mail ballot in one of the following ways before 12:00pm on Friday, October 9, 2026: 

• Fill out a mail ballot application form online at portmoody.ca/mailballot;
• Download a PDF application form at portmoody.ca/mailballot and drop it off at City Hall (100 Newport Drive); or
• Visit City Hall to apply in person.

At the time of application, you will be required to provide valid identification that provides evidence of identity and place of residence. You will also be required to select the method of delivery for your mail ballot package, which could be by regular letter mail or in-person pick up (ID required).

All mail ballots must be received by the Chief Election Officer (or designate) by no later than 8:00pm on Saturday, October 17, 2026, in order to be counted in the 2026 General Local Election.

Advance voting dates and location

Two advance voting opportunities will be held in the Port Moody Recreation Complex (300 Ioco Road) Wellness Room from 8:00am to 8:00pm on the following dates:

• proof that they are entitled to register in relation to the property; and

Accepted identification documents

To register to vote at the time of voting, you must produce at least two (2) documents that provide evidence of your identity and place of residence, at least one (1) of which must contain your signature. Examples of acceptable forms of IDs include:

• B.C. driver’s licence
• B.C. services card, B.C. CareCard, or Gold CareCard
• BCID card
• Owner’s certificate of insurance and vehicle licence issued by ICBC
• Social insurance number card
• Citizenship card or certificate
• Birth certificate
• Canadian passport
• Property tax notice
• Utility bill
• Debit or credit card or statement issued by a financial institution
• Student ID card
• Government-issue documents such as cheque stub, pension plan benefits statement, Old Age Security statement
• Income tax assessment notice
• Canadian Forces identification
• a document issued by the Government of Canada that certifies that the applicant is registered under the Indian Act (Canada), such as a status card
• a citizenship or membership card issued by a First Nation
• a citizenship card issued by Métis Nation British Columbia

Notice of Nomination

The City of Port Moody is notifying electors that nominations for the offices of Mayor (1), Councillor (6), and School Trustee (2) will be received by the Chief Election Officer or designated person starting at 9:00am on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 until 4:00pm on Friday, September 11, 2026, as follows:

• in-person;
• by mail;
• by fax to 604-469-4550 (contact the Election Office to confirm transmission); and
• electronically by email to elections@portmoody.ca

All nomination documents must be received by the Chief Election Officer or designate by 4:00pm on Friday, September 11, 2026. Nomination documents received after this deadline will not be accepted. Nomination documents that are incomplete or missing required information by the deadline will not be accepted.

Candidates are strongly encouraged to make an appointment with the Chief Election Officer to submit nomination documents. Qualifications for office

A person is qualified to be nominated, to be elected, and to hold office as Mayor, Councillor, or School Trustee if they are: 

• 18 years of age or older on general voting day (October 17, 2026);
• a Canadian citizen;
• resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed; and
• not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election in British Columbia or being nominated for, being elected to or holding the office, or be otherwise disqualified by law.

Interested persons can obtain information on the requirements and procedures for submitting nominations, including nomination forms, at portmoody.ca/vote or in-person at Port Moody City Hall, Legislative Services Division, 100 Newport Drive, Port Moody, BC during regular business hours.

Campaign period expense limits

In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2026 General Local Election, the following expense limits for candidates during the campaign period apply:

• Mayor: $34,268.43
• Councillor: $17,277.69
• School Trustee: $17,435.39

Third party advertising limits

In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2026 General Local Election, the following third party advertising limits apply:

• Directed Advertising Expense Limit (Mayor and Councillor): $1,713.42
• Directed Advertising Expense Limit (School Trustee): $1,074.35
• Cumulative Third Party Advertising Limit: $184,856.70

Availability of List of Registered Electors

Beginning Tuesday, September 1, 2026 until the close of general voting for the election on October 17, 2026, a copy of the List of Registered Electors will be available for public inspection at the Legislative Services Division at Port Moody City Hall, 100 Newport Drive.

Before inspecting the list, a person must sign a statement that they will not inspect the list, or use the information included in the list, for any reason except for the purposes of Part 3 of the Local Government Act. The list is available during regular office hours, Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays.

Request to omit or obscure from the list of registered electors: If an elector wishes to have their personal information omitted or obscured from the List of Registered Electors, they must submit a request to the Chief Election Officer.

Objection to registration of an elector

An objection to the registration of a person whose name appears on the List of Registered Electors may be made in accordance with the Local Government Act before 4:00pm on Friday, September 11, 2026.

An objection may only be made in writing by a person entitled to be registered as an elector in the City of Port Moody. Objections can only be made on the basis that the person whose name appears has either died or is not qualified to be registered as an elector in the City of Port Moody.

For Resident Electors:

Resident Electors may register in advance directly with Elections BC until August 18, 2026. Please visit the Elections BC website at elections.bc.ca to register online.

For Non-Resident Property Electors:

Non-Resident Property Electors will register directly with the City of Port Moody. Advance registrations for Non-Resident Property Electors will be accepted at the Election Office until August 25, 2026. After this date, registrations will only be accepted on voting days.
