Candidate Profile: Steve Milani
Running for: Councillor
I've lived in Moody Centre for over 25 years and love it! You've probably seen me around, jogging the Shoreline Trail with my dog, taking in the view from the pier, or attending community events as a City Councillor during my 2018-2022 term. I chaired the Finance and Transportation committees and worked collaboratively with Council and the community to get real results. Professionally, I work in property management, where asset stewardship is part of the job.
Since I left, Port Moody's annual operating expenses have grown $34M, up 38%. Council approved a new Official Community Plan with 25 towers in Moody Centre, some up to 40 storeys, double the 20 storeys the Province requires the City to allow. Our fiscally and environmentally responsible Kyle Centre restoration plan, under $3 million, was cancelled in favour of a $42M replacement we can't afford. Port Moody deserves better.
As our community grows, infrastructure and amenities need to keep pace. Growth should pay for growth, not taxpayers, and I'll work to ensure development pays its fair share. I'll push for a genuine jobs-focused district near Moody Station, a properly widened Barnet Highway rail overpass, expanded parks and amenities, and City assets that generate real value for taxpayers.
I've done this job before. I know City Hall, how to read a budget, and how to push back when a project doesn't serve residents. I'm an independent because my only obligation is to you. I'd be honoured to earn your vote again.
