Candidate Profile: Mark Kunzli (Port Moody Voice)
Running for: Councillor
In almost twenty years as a pharmacist I've been called many (mostly nice) things. The one I'm proudest of is fixer. It started at the counter, solving problems for patients. Now I'm the person who gets the call when a pharmacy needs someone to step in, work with them to sort things out, and leave it running better than I found it. That's the job I want to do for Port Moody.
Speaking up for my patients turned into speaking up for my profession, provincially and nationally, on the boards of the BC Pharmacy Association and the Canadian Pharmacists Association. I run my own business, hold an MBA from UBC, and serve on the City's Transportation Committee.
I want to be a voice on Council for families like mine. My Mom raised my brother and I in a townhouse, something that's increasingly out of reach. I moved to Port Moody to raise my own family, and when our youngest couldn’t get into daycare, we extended maternity leave two months. We could afford it, but someone like my Mom might not.
I went to my first Council meeting to share my experience, and didn’t see my family reflected in the decisions being made. I don’t think politics needs to be so political all the time. We need to have better discussions. The best decisions are made when all of our voices are sought out and embraced. That’s what Port Moody Voice stands for, and that’s the Council I want to be a part of.
Ask me anything. You'll get a straight answer. Bring me a problem. You'll get a fixer.
