Candidate Profile: Laura Soucy (Port Moody Voice)
Running for: Councillor
I moved to Port Moody as a young child and have made this community my home for most of my adult life. As a single parent, I was fortunate to have an affordable place where my son and I could build a secure and stable home. It has not always been easy, but I cannot imagine raising him anywhere else.
A lifelong advocate for affordable housing, I have dedicated my career to helping people find safety, security, and homes where they can thrive. I bring extensive experience in co-operative and non-profit housing, along with governance training gained through working with volunteer boards across British Columbia. Chairing meetings and serving on several boards have strengthened my understanding of collaboration, accountability, and effective decision-making.
My community service has included fundraising for Coquitlam Moody Minor Baseball, serving on committees and as a director of my housing co-op, and serving since 2021 on the board of a not-for-profit women’s housing society. As a brain tumour survivor, I am also involved with the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.
I believe Port Moody can grow while remaining an inclusive community where people feel heard, supported, and able to belong. Through housing diversity, meaningful civic engagement, and stronger local economic opportunities, we can build a community where everyone can thrive.
