Candidate Profile: Jeanine Longley
Running for: Councillor
My career has always included me relentlessly asking why - why can't it be better, why is it so expensive to fix. I became a product manager so I could help ensure the software engineers at my company were focused on the things that would bring the most value to our customers.
Since then, I've made my way onto the executive team by building consensus among the leaders at my company. I’ve been able to help identify a clear path forward that addresses as many needs as possible. There's never an unlimited budget or time, so prioritization is essential and clear communication of priorities helps everyone understand the tough decisions.
Personally, I have put my time into volunteering as the elected President of Product BC and with the Fringe Festival (and other similar events). I balance this with time spent on my hobbies (hiking, kayaking, camping, gardening) and with my family and friends.
Although in one sense I am “getting into politics” for the first time - in another sense I’ve always been “in politics” since I grew up in a political family. I feel solidarity is what will bring the most positive results for the most people - so I stand with unions, with activists, and with organizers who work to improve the lives of the many.
I want to use my skills to negotiate more for Port Moody. We’re at a critical moment in our growth and need to consider what the long term vision for Port Moody is and how to best accomplish it. We need to prioritize and communicate!
