Port Moody’s population, similar to many other parts of BC and Canada, is aging. In order to meet the needs of our aging population, we need to make sure there are accessible services and programs in place. We are working with our Seniors Focus Committee to improve our services.

How can Port Moody become an age-friendly community?

We’re looking for input from Port Moody residents aged 55 and older, as well as caregivers, as the City develops our Age-Friendly Plan.

Fill out our online survey by November 1, 2019

Port Moody’s Age-Friendly Plan will guide our city in becoming an age-friendly community – a place where older people can lead active lifestyles, live in security, enjoy good health, and continue to participate fully in society. Our Age-Friendly Plan will help us adapt our policies, services, settings, and structures to meet the needs of people of all ages and abilities.

Our plan will focus on eight themes established by the World Health Organization to evaluate a municipality’s age-friendliness:

  • outdoor spaces and buildings
  • transportation
  • housing
  • respect and social inclusion
  • social participation
  • communication and information
  • civic participation and employment
  • community support and health services

We’ll use these themes to establish priorities for our Age-Friendly Plan. While our plan will focus on older people, living in an age-friendly community benefits people of all ages. Input from the public will inform the development of a draft Age-Friendly Plan to be considered by Council in January 2020.
