Port Moody’s Car-Free Day is happening Sunday, August 16, 2026! We invite you to attend this exciting community celebration, filled with live music, delicious food, and fun activities for all ages. Join us on St. Johns Street, between Queens and Moody streets, from 12 noon to 5pm on Sunday, August 16, 2026. Admission, music, and activities are free!

“Car-Free Day is a much-loved celebration that our community looks forward to each year,” says Mayor Meghan Lahti. “Everyone is welcome at this vibrant street party that brings residents, businesses, artisans, and non-profit organizations together to have fun and celebrate what makes Port Moody such an amazing place. It’s also a great reminder to choose alternative ways to travel around the city, like walking, cycling, or taking public transit, for a healthier community and a healthier planet. Food and drink

You’ll find family-friendly seating areas and a variety of food and drink options available for purchase from restaurants, cafés, and food trucks. Licensed patios are family friendly.

Performers

Enjoy music at two locations: our main stage (St. Johns at Queens Street) and a DJ tent (St. Johns at Mary Street). At the main stage, be sure join us at 1pm for a welcome message from Mayor Lahti. Performers will include Elizabeth Irving (12pm), The Vidos (1:30pm), Space Chimp (2:25pm), and Bealby Point (4:15pm). The full entertainment schedule will be available at portmoody.ca/carfreeday.

Family-friendly activities

Bring the kids! We’ll have a mobile gym, inflatable slides, wacky obstacle course, games, and a soccer zone.

Community booths

Get to know the people serving your community! There will be more than 120 booths presented by local businesses, artisans, and non-profit groups.

City of Port Moody booths

Visit us at the City of Port Moody booth. Our Recreation team will be hosting a youth lounge, and our Environment team will be on hand with information about local wildlife. Port Moody Fire Rescue, Port Moody Public Library, and Port Moody Police will each have a booth as well. Be sure to stop by! 

TransLink buses

The TransLink team will be at Car-Free Day with their outreach buses. Come by and say hello! 

Know before you go:

On-site services

View our event map and use on-site signage to locate:

• portable, accessible toilets;
• water bottle filling stations including Metro Vancouver’s Water Wagon (bring your own reuseable bottle), misting stations, and dog water bowls;
• seating areas with tables and tents are located at Grant Street, Kyle Street, and Mary Street (accessible spots are available in each seating area);
• waste stations – please help to keep the event area tidy by taking all garbage and recycling to a waste station;
• a sensory friendly space operated by Canucks Autism Network (south side of St. Johns Street at Grant Street);
• free bike parking with The Bicycle Valet, brought to you by TransLink and operated by BEST (Better Environmentally Sound Transportation); and
• first aid tent (there will also be first aid attendants walking around the event site).

Getting there – ways to travel

There are lots of ways to travel to the celebration: use your own power – go on foot or by bike or hop on a kick scooter or skateboard; choose electric – e-scooter or e-bike; or use public transit.

Vehicle parking will be extremely limited, with some spots available at Westcoast Express Park and Ride (65 Williams Street) and accessible spots available at the former Moody Elementary School site (2717 St Johns Street). If you choose to drive, consider carpooling with friends or neighbours who plan to attend, to reduce the number of cars on the road. 

Weather preparedness

Dress for the weather as this event will go ahead rain or shine. Use your sun sense if the forecast calls for higher temperatures. Wear a hat, use sunscreen, and drink plenty of water. 

Leashed dogs are welcome, and you’ll find water bowls for dogs at our water bottle filling stations. However, if the weather is expected to be very warm, please leave your dog at home. Streets and sidewalks can quickly heat up to unbearable temperatures and can cause severe burns to a pet’s paw pads.

Street closure

Please note that on August 16, 2026, St. Johns Street, between Douglas and Moody streets, will be closed to all vehicle traffic from 6am to 10pm. For more information, please see our traffic management summary. Commuters and residents living in the area are directed to use alternative routes such as Clarke Street. Bus riders can find temporary bus stops on Clarke Street. On-street parking in the neighbourhood will be extremely limited. Expect delays and give yourself extra time to get to your destination.
