Moray Street Traffic Calming Measures

Moray Street spans between St. Johns Street and Brookmount Avenue and connects to Thermal Drive in Coquitlam. It currently has a posted speed limit of 30 kilometres an hour and carries approximately 7,000 vehicles per day. Moray Street is used by residents and to access local businesses. It also serves as one of the few north-south connections to travel between Port Moody and Coquitlam.

Informed by public input, a traffic calming pilot project was implemented in 2022 to reduce traffic speed and improve safety for all road users and community residents. Over the next year, the City monitored the effectiveness of the pilot and reviewed community feedback, and in 2023 Council approved the next steps to replace the temporary pilot measures with permanent infrastructure. In May 2025, Council approved funding for construction, which is expected to begin in fall 2025. Moray Street Upgrades (in-progress)

As part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety, permanent upgrades to Moray Street are moving forward. Building on previous traffic calming measures, these improvements will enhance pedestrian and cyclist safety while maintaining traffic flow.  The upgrades will replace temporary pilot measures with permanent infrastructure, including improved pedestrian and cycling facilities, enhanced crosswalks, optimized medians, and upgraded street lighting. The video below provides an overview of these improvements.
