Summer Safety Message from Fire Chief Darcey O'Riordan
As summer arrives, we want everyone to enjoy the season safely. Warm weather means more outdoor activities, but it also brings increased fire risks. Here are some essential summer safety tips to protect yourself and your loved ones:
Barbecue Safety
- Keep fires and BBQs at least 10 feet away from buildings and dry vegetation.
- Check propane tanks for leaks and keep children away from open flames.
Outdoor & Travel Safety
- When driving, be mindful of emergency vehicles and wildfire conditions.
- Avoid parking on dry grass—hot vehicle exhausts can start fires.
Wildfire Prevention
- Follow local burn bans and fire restrictions.
- Dispose of cigarettes properly—never toss them into grass, mulch, or wooded areas.
- Have an emergency evacuation plan if you live in a wildfire-prone area.
Summer is a time for fun, adventure, and relaxation, but safety should always come first. Stay vigilant and prepared, and together we can prevent avoidable accidents.
