Port Moody celebrates Culture Days with free activities in Rocky Point Park September 19-20
Explore arts and culture in your community during Culture Days! The City of Port Moody invites residents and visitors to participate in Culture Days – a national celebration – along with thousands of artists, organizations, and communities across Canada.
“Culture Days is about increasing our understanding and appreciation of arts and culture through unique, engaging activities and direct interaction between creators and the public,” says Mayor Meghan Lahti. “In Port Moody, City of the Arts, we value and celebrate art, culture, and heritage, and we’re excited to offer free activities as part of Culture Days. I invite you to discover something new about your community, the creators who live and work here, and your own artistic expression during Culture Days 2026.”
The City of Port Moody is proud to present the following free Culture Days activities on September 19 and 20, 2026:
Introduction to Plein Air Drawing Workshop
Date: Saturday, September 19, 2026
Times: Select your preferred session – 10am (one hour with instructor Olesia Kharlamova), 11:30am (one hour with instructor Olesia Kharlamova), or 1pm (two hours with instructor Christy Dunsmore)
Location: Rocky Point Pier, Rocky Point Park (2800 block Murray Street)
Cost: Free
Age recommendation: 13+

Important notes: Participants will meet at the entrance to Rocky Point Pier. This event will take place rain or shine, so please check the forecast and dress appropriately for the weather.
Discover the fundamentals of plein air drawing in this introductory outdoor workshop. Plein air is a French term that means in the open air or outdoors. Participants will learn basic observational drawing and sketching techniques using a watercolour marker and water collected from Noons Creek while exploring and capturing the surrounding landscape. No experience is necessary, and all supplies will be provided.
The 10am and 11:30am classes will be led by Olesia Kharlamova, a Ukrainian-born watercolour artist and art instructor based in Port Moody. Kharlamova’s work explores landscape, light, and emotion, drawing on nature's resilience as a quiet counterpoint to the upheaval of displacement and war. The 1pm class will be led by Christy Dunsmore, an artist, writer, and fine arts instructor based in Port Moody. Dunsmore strives to bring joy to people through art exploration, storytelling, and humour.
Port Moody Public Art Walking Tour in Farsi
Date: Sunday, September 20, 2026
Time: 10am (90 minutes)
Location: Various locations in Moody Centre, starting at Rocky Point Park (2800 block Murray Street)
Cost: Free
Age recommendation: All ages are welcome. Children must be under the care of parents/guardians at all times.
Registration required: No
Important notes: Participants will meet in Rocky Point Park at the base of the Moody Street overpass. This event will take place rain or shine, so please check the forecast and dress appropriately for the weather.
The City of Port Moody invites you on a walking tour of public art works in Moody Centre, beginning in Rocky Point Park and ending near Inlet Station. The tour will be conducted in Farsi by artist Gorlriz Rezvani.
Rezvani is an Iranian-Canadian artist working across painting, drawing, video, installation, and readymade forms. She holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Fine Arts from Iran and completed her Master of Fine Arts at the University of British Columbia in 2026.

Dennis is the curator of The Gallery at Evergreen Arts in Coquitlam. As a curator, writer, and arts administrator specializing in public programming and audience engagement, Dennis has worked with artists and curatorial projects across Canada including at the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto and the Vancouver Art Gallery.
