2026 Port Moody election: Register to vote or download a candidate nomination package today

The City of Port Moody is holding a general local election to elect one mayor and six councillors for City Council and two school trustees for the School District 43 Board of Education. Elected individuals will serve a four-year term from November 2026 to October 2030. City councils and school boards make decisions on issues that directly affect you and your family, like utilities and roadwork, parks and recreation, community development, and the policies and budget for the local school district. 

Port Moody residents, get ready to vote

Save time at the polls and register today with Elections BC via their online form. For phone, mail, and email options, visit the Elections BC website. The deadline for advance registration with Elections BC is Tuesday, August 18, 2026. 

Registering in advance makes the voting process faster and easier on election day. Registered voters receive important updates from Elections BC after an election is called, including information about where, when, and how to vote. If you miss this deadline, you can still register at time of voting at a voting location.

Please note the City of Port Moody uses the Provincial Voters List. If you are on the Provincial Voters List for Port Moody, you are already registered to vote in the Port Moody General Local and School Board Election.

Get ready to run as a candidate

Interested in running for office? Candidates must meet the following requirements to run in the 2026 General Local and School Board Election:

• be 18 years or older on general voting day;
• be a Canadian citizen;
• be a resident of B.C. for at least 6 months (candidates do not have to live in Port Moody); and
• not be disqualified by law.

Our candidate nomination information package and nomination forms are available on our Running for Office web page at portmoody.ca/vote. Alternatively, you may request (via email to elections@portmoody.ca) printed copies of the nomination documents and forms, to be picked up at City Hall (Legislative Services counter, main floor, 100 Newport Drive). 

The Chief Election Officer will receive nomination documents in person (recommended) or by mail, email, or fax starting Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at 9:00am. The deadline for submissions is 4:00pm on Friday, September 11, 2026. Please note that:

• nomination documents received after the deadline will not be accepted; and
• nomination documents that are incomplete or missing required information by the deadline will not be accepted.

Candidates are strongly encouraged to make an appointment with the Chief Election Officer to submit nomination documents. This ensures that the Election Office can thoroughly review nomination documents at the time of submission, go over important election information, and answer questions. To make an appointment, please email elections@portmoody.ca or visit City Hall (Legislative Services counter).
