Election Notices

Notice of Nomination

The City of Port Moody is notifying electors that nominations for the offices of Mayor (1), Councillor (6), and School Trustee (2) will be received by the Chief Election Officer or designated person starting at 9:00am on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 until 4:00pm on Friday, September 11, 2026, as follows:

  • in-person;
  • by mail;
  • by fax to 604-469-4550 (contact the Election Office to confirm transmission); and
  • electronically by email to elections@portmoody.ca

All nomination documents must be received by the Chief Election Officer or designate by 4:00pm on Friday, September 11, 2026. Nomination documents received after this deadline will not be accepted. Nomination documents that are incomplete or missing required information by the deadline will not be accepted.

Candidates are strongly encouraged to make an appointment with the Chief Election Officer to submit nomination documents. To make an appointment with the Chief Election Officer, email elections@portmoody.ca, call 604.469.4505, or visit the Legislative Services counter on the first floor of Port Moody City Hall, 100 Newport Drive.

Qualifications for office

A person is qualified to be nominated, to be elected, and to hold office as Mayor, Councillor, or School Trustee if they are: 

  • 18 years of age or older on general voting day (October 17, 2026);
  • a Canadian citizen;
  • resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed; and
  • not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election in British Columbia or being nominated for, being elected to or holding the office, or be otherwise disqualified by law.

Interested persons can obtain information on the requirements and procedures for submitting nominations, including nomination forms, at portmoody.ca/vote or in-person at Port Moody City Hall, Legislative Services Division, 100 Newport Drive, Port Moody, BC during regular business hours.

Campaign period expense limits

In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2026 General Local Election, the following expense limits for candidates during the campaign period apply:

  • Mayor: $34,268.43
  • Councillor: $17,277.69
  • School Trustee: $17,435.39

Third party advertising limits

In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2026 General Local Election, the following third party advertising limits apply:

  • Directed Advertising Expense Limit (Mayor and Councillor): $1,713.42
  • Directed Advertising Expense Limit (School Trustee): $1,074.35
  • Cumulative Third Party Advertising Limit: $184,856.70

Availability of List of Registered Electors

Beginning Tuesday, September 1, 2026 until the close of general voting for the election on October 17, 2026, a copy of the List of Registered Electors will be available for public inspection at the Legislative Services Division at Port Moody City Hall, 100 Newport Drive.

Before inspecting the list, a person must sign a statement that they will not inspect the list, or use the information included in the list, for any reason except for the purposes of Part 3 of the Local Government Act. The list is available during regular office hours, Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays.

Request to omit or obscure from the list of registered electors: If an elector wishes to have their personal information omitted or obscured from the List of Registered Electors, they must submit a request to the Chief Election Officer.

Objection to registration of an elector

An objection to the registration of a person whose name appears on the List of Registered Electors may be made in accordance with the Local Government Act before 4:00pm on Friday, September 11, 2026.

An objection may only be made in writing by a person entitled to be registered as an elector in the City of Port Moody. Objections can only be made on the basis that the person whose name appears has either died or is not qualified to be registered as an elector in the City of Port Moody.

Advance elector registration

For Resident Electors:

Resident Electors may register in advance directly with Elections BC until August 18, 2026. Please visit the Elections BC website at elections.bc.ca to register online.

For Non-Resident Property Electors:

Non-Resident Property Electors will register directly with the City of Port Moody. Advance registrations for Non-Resident Property Electors will be accepted at the Election Office until August 25, 2026. After this date, registrations will only be accepted on voting days. Please contact elections@portmoody.ca to register, or visit portmoody.ca/vote for more information.
