Parks Projects
With more than 35% of Port Moody dedicated to green space, the Environment and Parks team is continuously at work restoring and upgrading elements such as staircases, railings, and plantings. Recently this has included plantings to restore vegetation at the Alfred Howe Greenway, and improvements to the sport courts at Greenleaf, Flavelle, and Art Wilkinson parks. In addition to ongoing maintenance and restoration, a number of larger projects are underway – read the project pages below to learn more about how we are enhancing our parks and trails for everyone to enjoy.
Parks plans and strategies
Master plans
In 2024, Council endorsed two master plans for Old Orchard Park and Rocky Point Park to guide park infrastructure enhancements. These plans articulate a vision for the parks, and highlight priorities and long-term aspirations.
Trail Network Plan
As Port Moody has experienced considerable growth in demand for use of trails and changes in the types of uses and trail visits, the City is reviewing the current trail network and looking at how to improve user experience. The Trail Network Plan will define a vision for the City’s extensive trail network and provide clear and coordinated direction for planning and managing our trails and trail-related amenities over the next 30 years.
Parkland Strategy
We’re developing a Parkland Strategy to guide long-term planning for parkland throughout Port Moody. Over the next 30 years, the strategy will provide a framework for decision-making and prioritization of investment in existing and new parkland such as parks, greenways, natural areas, and public open spaces. It will include priorities and actions to help us ensure that parkland is distributed across the city, with equal access for all to diverse spaces and amenities.
