Seven community groups to receive funds through Port Moody grant program in 2019

Seven community groups will share $17,900 in available funds through the City of Port Moody’s Community Grant Program this year.

The Community Grant Program provides financial assistance to community groups and non-profit organizations that contribute to the general interest and benefit of local residents and businesses. Port Moody’s Citizen Advisory Group (CAG) reviewed 24 eligible applications received in January 2019, and made a recommendation to Council as to which applications should be approved. The CAG is an advisory body made up of more than 250 Port Moody residents of all ages who volunteer their time to provide input on City issues. Council approved the final awards at a Regular Meeting of Council on April 23, 2019.

The seven applicants listed below will receive Community Grant Program funds for 2019:

Community Group   Grant Amount Reason For Grant Request
ACCESS Youth Outreach Services  $6,500 To help cover the cost of a part-time staff person and shuttle bus expenses for community outreach
Burrard Inlet Marine Enhancement Society  $3,000 To support a project to reduce cigarette butt litter
Pacific Post Partum Support Society  $1,000 To help cover the cost of the Society’s free Telephone Support Counselling program

Read City staff’s Report to Finance Committee (item 4.1) for a complete list of eligible applicants and the criteria used to evaluate the grant applications.

To be eligible for consideration, an application must meet the qualifications outlined in the City’s Grants to Organizations policy. As set out in the policy, 10 per cent of the annual budget approved for grants must be set aside for emergency requests. The 2019 budget was set at $20,000; a hold-back of $2,100 remains, to be awarded at Council’s discretion.

The deadline for Community Grant applications is January 31 each year. Visit our Commnity Grants page to learn more about the program.
