Candidate nomination period opens for 2022 Port Moody General Local Election

The candidate nomination period is now open for the 2022 Port Moody General Local Election, happening on Saturday, October 15, 2022. The Chief Election Officer will receive nominations for the offices of mayor, councillor, and school trustee until 4pm on Friday, September 9, 2022. 

Information guides and nomination packages are available online at portmoody.ca/vote. Printed copies of the nomination documents can be picked up at the Legislative Services Counter, Main Floor, City Hall (100 Newport Drive). Please phone 604-469-4505 or email elections@portmoody.ca ahead of your pick-up.  

Nomination papers must be filed with the Chief Election Officer at City Hall. Potential candidates are strongly encouraged to make an appointment to submit nomination papers – phone 604-469-4505 or email elections@portmoody.ca to arrange a date and time. Please note City Hall will be closed on Monday, September 5, 2022 for Labour Day.

Candidates must meet the following requirements to run for office in the 2022 General Local Election:

  • be 18 years or older;
  • be a Canadian citizen;
  • be a resident of B.C. for at least six months (candidates do not have to live in Port Moody); and
  • not be disqualified by law. 

Completed candidate nomination documents will be posted at portmoody.ca/vote as they are received between August 30 and September 9, 2022.  

The City of Port Moody is holding a general election to elect one mayor, six councillors, and two school trustees for a four-year term. City councils and school boards make decisions on issues that directly affect you and your family, like utilities and roadwork, parks and recreation, community development, and the policies and budget for the local school district. 

Eligible voters have three ways to vote:

  • mail ballot – eligible voters must fill out an online application form or apply in-person at City Hall to receive a mail ballot, and completed mail ballots must be received by the Chief Election Officer by 8pm on Saturday, October 15, 2022 (you can mail your ballot back to us or drop it off at City Hall between October 3 and October 15, 2022 – please note City Hall will be closed on Monday, October 10, 2022 for Thanksgiving);
  • advance voting opportunities – advance polls will be open on Wednesday, October 5 and Saturday, October 8, 2022 from 8am to 8pm in the Wellness Room at the Port Moody Recreation Complex (300 Ioco Road); and
  • General Voting Day – on Saturday, October 15, 2022, polls will be open from 8am to 8pm at the following locations: Port Moody Recreation Complex (300 Ioco Road), Kyle Centre (125 Kyle Street), Heritage Mountain Community Centre (200 Panorama Place), and Glenayre Community Centre (492 Glencoe Drive).
