Ban on use of cooking and warming appliances in parks and green spaces has been lifted
A ban on the use of cooking and warming appliances in City parks, forested lands, and public green spaces – issued on July 19, 2023 by Acting Fire Chief Kirk Heaven – has been lifted.
The ban was issued when the local fire danger rating reached “extreme.” The fire danger rating is now “low” following a period of cooler, wet weather throughout the region.
“Thank you to Port Moody residents and visitors for co-operating and complying with the ban, which helped to prevent any fire incidents in our parks and forested lands,” said Heaven. “This ban may be reinstated if the fire risk level reaches ‘extreme’ again this summer. I’d like to remind everyone that smoking is not permitted in City parks at any time, and open fires are banned year-round. Let’s all continue to do our part to prevent wildfires.”
Port Moody Fire Rescue maintains a four-step fire danger rating which is communicated via their website as well as three digital displays: two digital billboards, located at the Ioco Road/Barnet Highway intersection and on Barnet Highway near the former landfill site, and one digital sign located at the Ioco Road/Newport Drive intersection.
