City Council presents Port Moody Legion with commemorative plaque in recognition of Royal Canadian Legion’s 100th anniversary
At the Regular Council Meeting on July 14, 2026, City Council presented the Port Moody Legion (Branch 119) with a commemorative plaque in recognition of the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Legion.
“The City of Port Moody is proud to recognize a century of service to Veterans, their families, and Canada, from Dominion Command at the national level to provincial Commands and Branch communities across the country,” said Mayor Meghan Lahti. “This is an incredible milestone for a not-for-profit, member-based organization, and it speaks to the members’ passion for ensuring that Canada never forgets and that Veterans and their families always feel seen and supported.
“We also honour Branch 119’s continued dedication to remembrance, service, and community. Our local Branch has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the Royal Canadian Legion’s mission and values and has worked tirelessly to ensure the act of remembrance continues in Port Moody. Through fundraising events like the Poppy Campaign, welcoming members and non-members alike into their physical space on Clarke Street, and of course the annual Remembrance Day parade and ceremony, Branch 119 continues to serve not only Veterans and their families, but the community as a whole.”
On July 17, 1926, the Royal Canadian Legion was officially incorporated by a special Act of Parliament. For 100 years, the Legion has advocated for Veterans, honoured the memory of all who served Canada, and provided local services and supports that strengthen communities across the country.
