Building Guides and Bulletins

If you're planning to build or renovate your home, you may want to review some of our building guidelines and bulletins. These resources are intended to make your next development or home renovation project run smoothly.

Our Good Neighbour Guidelines promote thoughtful planning and considerate behaviour in the community. We encourage you to reach out to your neighbours prior to major renovation and building projects to let them know how it might impact the community.

We also have a Neighbourhood Feedback Policy that allows your neighbours to view building designs and ask questions before construction can begin.

Create a laneway home (also known as a Detached Accessory Dwelling Unit) at the back of your property. You can turn this into a rental opportunity, or create a private space for senior or young-adult family members. Learn about the development guidelines and permit application process for laneway homes.

The Residential Building Guide will assist you in applying for a permit to construct a new home, an accessory building, or an addition to an existing residential building.

The Secondary Suite Guide will assist you in creating a new secondary suite.

In addition to adhering to the bylaws, all short-term rental hosts must have the appropriate Port Moody business licence and follow the provincial legislation requirements. The guide for short-term rentals provides further detail on the application process.

The Swimming Pool Permit Guide will assist you in constructing a swimming pool.

The Tenant Improvement Guide will assist you in applying for a tenant improvement in an existing industrial or commercial building.

Waste management

To remove waste and hazardous materials from your property, you'll need to complete our waste management plan form. This process is regulated through the City's Waste Management Bylaw
