Volunteering

There are a variety of volunteer opportunities in the City. Becoming a volunteer is an excellent way to gain experience working with the public, it can teach you new skills, and you will make a difference in your community.

Join a committee

Port Moody has a variety of different committees and boards with positions available for the general public. Review all of our committees and get involved in your local government.

Citizen Advisory Group

The Citizen Advisory Group (CAG) is made up of more than 250 Port Moody residents of all ages who volunteer their time to provide input on City issues. Council seeks feedback from the CAG on a variety of topics, from budgets and master plans to new City projects and community development. We are not accepting applications for the CAG at this time.

Volunteer in recreation and community events

Get involved in Port Moody by volunteering for recreation programs, day camps, or community events like Canada Day, Car Free Day, Cheer at the Pier, and the CP Holiday Train.

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old for recreation programs and 13 for community events, have an active recreation registration account, and be able to communicate by email for training and scheduling. A cleared Police Information Check and attendance at an orientation session are required before signing up for volunteer shifts.

Join us this summer! We’re recruiting for:

  • Canada Day (July 1, 11:00am–7:00pm)

  • Car-Free Day (August 17, 10:00am–7:00pm)

  • Recreation Programs (July–August): Flexible options from single-day to week long commitments.

Step 1: Express interest
Email volunteers@portmoody.ca to let us know you're interested. Watch for our reply with instructions.

Step 2: Complete our police information check
Do not proceed on your own. Wait for our email with personalized instructions on how to submit your police check.

Step 3: Check your spam folder
Important info about your police check may land there, don’t miss it!

Step 4: Submit your completed check
Email your approved police check to cpic@portmoody.ca.

Step 5: Create a volunteer account
Sign up for an account in our registration system. This is the same account used for recreation program registration. If someone in your family or household has an account, you can be added to theirs (e.g., by a parent or guardian), be sure to add your own email address.

Step 6: Attend an orientation
Register for the recreation orientation, the events orientation, or both if you want to volunteer in both areas.

Step 7: Sign up for opportunities
Start booking volunteer shifts after completing orientation.

Step 8: Make an impact
Show up, help out, and make a difference in your community!

Note: Volunteer orientations and opportunities vary by season. Check back for updates!
