Fitness Programs and Weight Room

Our fitness facilities include a weight room, two gymnasiums, an aerobics studio, spin studio, wellness room and a walking track, all located at our Recreation Complex at 300 Ioco Road. 

The Recreation Complex is open to the public Monday to Friday from 6:00am to 10:00pm and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00am to 9:00pm. The front desk office closes half an hour before the facility closes, each day. The steam room and hot tub will also be open during these times. We are closed on Statutory Holidays.

Registered fitness programs 

Our fitness programs are thoughtfully divided into five categories to suit a variety of interests and fitness levels: Dance Fitness, Gentle Fitness, Small Group Programs, Strength, Cardio and Spin, and Yoga, Pilates and Barre. Registered programs run once a week for the duration of the season, offering you the chance to focus on your goals and build consistency. Whether you want to boost your endurance in strength training, embrace the energy of dance, or unwind in a yoga session, there’s a program that’s perfect for your lifestyle and fitness journey. Programs can be viewed and registered for easily through our online registration system.

Drop-in fitness classes

We offer a wide range of drop-in fitness classes to suit all abilities, including spin, aerobics, yoga, and wellness. To secure your spot, we highly recommend booking in advance, though drop-ins are welcome if space allows. Booking is quick and easy through our online booking system or by calling 604.469.4556 during office hours. Reservations open 25 hours before each class, and detailed schedules and class descriptions are available online.

It is now possible to withdraw online from a registered drop-in activity:  

  • it must be 24 hours after you booked the activity
  • log into your account and select the person who you would like to withdraw
  • scroll down to "schedules" and click to expand
  • the activity will appear in the calendar, however you need to "switch to list view" and then find the activity you would like to withdraw from
  • then click on "Actions" on the right hand side and select withdraw
  • if you experience problems, please call us at 604.469.4556

Late arrival and no-show procedures are being implemented to promote equal access to recreation fitness opportunities by discouraging individuals who have reserved a spot from arriving late or failing to notify us if they are unable to attend.

Customers are required to cancel their fitness class before the class is scheduled to begin. You can cancel your reservation online, call us at 604.469.4556 or send an email to recreation@portmoody.ca. When phoning or emailing, please include your full name, the name of the specific class, and the date and time of the booking you wish to cancel.

NO-SHOW PROCEDURES

In the event that you do not cancel your spot prior to the start of a fitness class, a no-show strike will be recorded on your account. Accumulating three no-show strikes within a 90-day period will result in a temporary suspension of your fitness pass for one week. Please review the procedure below:

  • No-Show Strike 1 and 2: Should you fail to cancel your reservation before the class begins, a strike will be recorded on your account, and you will be contacted via email.

  • Third Strike: Upon receiving a third no-show strike, you will be notified via email, and your membership will be suspended for one week.

  • During Suspension: During the period of suspension, you may still attend fitness classes by paying the full drop-in fee. 

  • Non-Refundable Bookings: If you booked your class with an 11-visit pass or by paying the drop-in fee, please note that these bookings are not included in the 3-strike procedure. However, missed classes will be deducted from your 11 visits and will not be refunded.

This procedure is applicable to members with 1-month, 3-month, 6-month, and 1-year memberships. 

LATE ARRIVAL PROCEDURES

  • Please arrive 5 to 10 minutes before your start time.
  • Fitness classes: If you arrive more than five minutes late for your fitness class, you will not be permitted inside.
  • Refunds will not be issued for late arrivals.

Teen fitness

Teens of any age are welcome to use the weight room at any time and attend all fitness classes, including yoga, spinning, and all registered fitness programs. Teens ages 13-15 who would like to use the weight room will need to get a teen weight room card and then purchase a membership or drop-in pass. Learn more

Indoor walking track

The Recreation Complex has a wheelchair accessible, rubber composite indoor walking track that overlooks the double gymnasium. The track is open during regular operating hours at a cost of $2.40 per person. Sessions are free of charge for adults 60+ daily from 8:00am to 4:00pm.

Steam room and hot tub 

The steam room and hot tub are open during operating hours, access is included with your membership or a drop-in fee. Children must be 16+ to use the hot tub and steam room on their own, teens 13-15 must be accompanied by an adult 19+ at all times. Children 12 and under are not permitted.
