Port Moody Memory Program

The Memory Program is an exciting joint effort between the Port Moody Foundation and the City of Port Moody providing a means for individuals, businesses or organizations to donate funds to enhance our parks, trail systems, beaches and public buildings.

You can commemorate a great occasion or achievement, celebrate a birthday or anniversary, or give a loved one a lasting legacy by making your own personal addition to this special program.

Donated items are maintained by the City for a life span of 10 years and a plaque is provided for your personal words. Donations to the Foundation are tax deductible and income tax receipts are issued by the Foundation for each individual donation.

The following is a partial list of items available for your consideration:

The park bench program has been very successful. It allows the donor to contribute a park bench at one of the City’s parks or beaches. The cost of a standard bench is $4000.

The donation covers the cost of the base, the bench, memorial plaque, and 10 years maintenance. A standard size plaque (2¼x6”), is used, allowing for 5 lines with 48 characters per line (space between words are included in this figure). There are numerous areas in the City that have been selected for park benches.

Due to high demand, no new bench locations are currently available in Rocky Point Park, Old Orchard Park, or along the water’s edge walking path of Shoreline Trail. The City has a waitlist for these locations.

Please contact the Parks Division by phone at 604.469.4676 or by email to inquire about available park bench areas or to be put on the waitlist.

The picnic table donation program allows the donor to contribute a picnic table at one of the City’s parks or beaches. The cost of a picnic table is $5000. The donation amount covers the cost of a cement base, plaque, table and 10 year maintenance. A standard size plaque (2¼x6”), is used, allowing for 5 lines with 48 characters per line (spaces between words are included in this figure). There are limited spaces available at Rocky Point Park and Old Orchard Park. Please contact 604.469.4676 or email the Parks Division to inquire.

The Port Moody Memory Program is very flexible. If you wish to discuss an original idea or a unique way to contribute to our parks or civic facilities, please do not hesitate to contact our helpful staff.

It should be understood that donations through the memory program for items in no way constitutes ownership of the item, the land upon which it is situated, or the surrounding lands. All gifts to the memory program are accepted on the basis that the donated item will be maintained for 10 years in the original location, or in an area near the original location, after which the disposition of the gift is at the sole discretion of the City of Port Moody.

Furthermore, the City retains the right to use lands adjacent to the donated item, as it deems appropriate, or to relocate the item if redevelopment of the area warrants this action.

Currently the Memory Program only includes benches within designated parks. Benches on streets, in urban plazas and along the St. Johns Street Multi-Use Path are not included in the program.

If you are interested in making a donation or would like further information, contact the Operations Division by email or by phone at 604.469.4574.
