Marine Environment

Port Moody Arm is home to some of the last remaining large productive intertidal wetlands in Burrard Inlet. At low tide, an expansive area of tidal mudflats is exposed that supports an invertebrate community that is an important food source for marine birds and fish. These mudflats form the City’s Tidal Park, have been designated for conservation use by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority and are under long-term lease to the City.

The marine wildlife that uses the mudflats and are present in Port Moody Arm are sensitive to disturbance from recreational activities and industrial and urban development. Please take the time to help protect Burrard Inlet, both now and for generations to come, and follow posted rules: 

• People and pets should stay off the mudflats.
• Respect speed limits to minimize the impacts of wakes on the shoreline, wildlife, and safety of others.
• No power boats are allowed in Tidal Park.
• Keep your distance when observing marine wildlife
• Boats anchored must have a Designated Anchorage Area permit
