The discharge of untreated sewage is restricted in nearshore marine waters. Help us keep the inlet clean by using pump-out services instead of dumping sewage into the water. Boat sewage is a source of fecal bacteria that harms the environment and can put public health at risk. The City of Vancouver and the Georgia Straight Alliance provide detailed maps and lists of pump-out services available in our area. We recommend that you call ahead to make sure that pump-out services are still available.

Green boating
As we enjoy the boating season, it is important to do our part to keep the water and environment clean. Learn about green boating practices and follow these tips when you are boating:

• avoid unnecessary idling and turn off your boat when you are docked
• maintain your boat motor and battery
• don't overload your boat because excess weight will use additional fuel
• avoid spilling fuel

For a detailed description of the anchorage rules and regulations, read our Anchorage terms and conditions. When anchoring in Port Moody, you must follow these rules:

• no anchoring is allowed outside of the DAA
• you must get a DAA permit to anchor overnight
• you can be anchored for up to 21 nights during a 40-day period
• you must have your permit documents available, as proof of registration
• only marine pleasure crafts are allowed in the DAA
• boats must be under anchor and not attached to a buoy. Any buoys located in the DAA are not registered, may not be safe and should not be used.
• you must leave by 12pm on the day your permit ends
• discharge of sewage is prohibited

Boaters must be within the boundaries of the four buoys of the DAA based on the GPS coordinates:

• latitude: 49°17'18.06”N
• longitude: -122°51'14.47W

If you would like to anchor in the Port Moody inlet overnight, you must register for a Designated Anchorage Area permit. You will need a boat licence and insurance in order to receive a DAA permit. To get a permit, you must:

• complete the DAA permit registration form
• sign a DAA permit contract
• pay a daily fee (see Fees Bylaw for pricing)

We will send an email confirming that we received your permit application. If necessary, you can show this email to the Enforcement Officer upon inspection until you receive the actual permit.

The City of Port Moody will review your permit application and check for availability for the requested dates. We issue DAA permits on a first come, first served basis.

Cancellation
You can cancel your overnight permit reservation up to 24-hours before the start date of the permit. There is a $30 administration charge for all cancellations.

DAA closures
The DAA may be closed during special events.

Anchoring enforcement

Boats that are anchored overnight, inside the DAA, without a permit, are subject to enforcement and towing. Fines up to $200 per day will be charged to boaters who do not register and pay DAA fees during their stay (Bylaw No. 3218).

If you anchor your boat outside of the DAA, you are likely in the shipping lanes. This means that you are a navigational hazard and the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority may remove your boat.

Port Moody is located on the beautiful Burrard Inlet giving us access to our own ocean playground. Residents and visitors love to get out on the water. Power boats must obey speed limits (5 knot) and reduce wake around Rocky Point docks and boat ramp. No power boats are permitted in Tidal Park.  Whether you are kayaking, sailing or cruising around the inlet, we want you to have fun and stay safe.

The Government of Canada's Competency of Operators of Pleasure Craft Regulations require you to carry a Pleasure Craft Operator Card while operating a boat with any type of motor for recreational purposes.
