Section of Shoreline Trail paved path to close for sewer upgrades project, detour route in effect

Starting Tuesday, August 23, 2022, the section of the Shoreline Trail paved pathway that runs from Murray Street (3200 block near the railroad track) to Old Orchard Park (630 Alderside Road) will be closed during construction hours for work related to the Shoreline Trail Sanitary Sewer Upgrades Project. Work impacting this trail is expected to continue in phases through late 2023.

Construction hours will be 7am to 7pm Monday through Friday and 9am to 6pm on Saturdays. Onsite signage redirects northbound trail users to a designated detour that runs behind Trasolini Field and the Port Moody Recreation Complex to Ioco Road. The route then continues along Sentinel Road to San Remo Drive and the railway crossing that reconnects with the paved trail just south of Old Orchard Park. Those traveling south from Old Orchard Park will be directed along the same detour in the reverse direction. Please note the detour includes unpaved trail, steep grades, and railway crossings.

During non-construction hours, this section of paved trail will be accessible through entrances from Murray Street, Old Orchard Park, and San Remo Drive – all other access points will be closed. The lower gravel trail is not impacted and will remain open to pedestrians. However, cyclists are reminded that they will need to use the detour route during construction hours as bicycles are not permitted on the gravel trail.

The project involves making improvements to two aging sanitary sewer mains that are critical components of our sanitary sewer network. The upgrades will ensure the continuation of reliable operation of our sanitary sewer system for area residents.

In addition to the sanitary sewer work, improvements are planned for the existing Shoreline Trail paved pathway (between Murray Street and Old Orchard Park), including paving, widening the path in a few areas, adding environmental enhancements, and installing new benches and wayfinding signage.
