Proof of vaccination required for ages 12+ to access some City programs and services

By order of the Provincial Health Officer (PHO), you are required to show proof of vaccination to access some programs, services, and events. There has been a change in the provincial requirement since our last communication on September 12, 2021 – it now applies to all people born in 2009 or earlier (12 years and older).

The BC Vaccine Card, issued by the provincial government, will be the only acceptable proof of vaccination after September 26, 2021. Up to and including September 26, you may show other forms of proof such as an immunization record card provided by a pharmacy or vaccine clinic. Please visit the B.C. government’s website for more information.

By order of the PHO, people aged 12 and older must show proof of vaccination for access to:

  • indoor adult fitness and sport programs or activities (including skating/ice sports)
  • the weight room and walking track at the Recreation Complex (300 Ioco Road)
  • indoor organized events with more than 50 people
  • spectators at indoor youth sporting events with more than 50 people
  • indoor ticketed sporting events with more than 50 people
  • indoor organized adult group recreational classes and activities with more than 50 people
  • indoor concerts, theatre, and dance events with more than 50 people

Where proof of vaccination is required, you will be asked to show a piece of valid government photo identification such as a B.C. driver’s licence, BC Services Card, or passport. Youth aged 12 to 18 are not required to show valid government photo identification. If you are unable to provide the required documentation, you will not be allowed to participate. The requirement will be in place until January 31, 2022 and could be extended.

Proof of vaccination is not required for access to preschool, children, and youth (for those aged 21 years or younger) programs, service counters at civic facilities, or the Port Moody Public Library.

If you plan to participate in one of our programs or activities where proof of vaccination is required, please arrive early to allow time for the check-in process. We kindly ask for your patience and understanding as we all adjust to this new requirement. If you have a question, please email us at recreation@portmoody.ca or give us a call at 604-469-4556. The procedures for checking vaccine cards and identification will be updated as needed to reflect any changes made to the order by the Provincial Health Officer.

Visitors to civic facilities are reminded that people aged 12 years and older must wear masks in indoor public settings, regardless of vaccination status, by order of the Provincial Health Officer. This includes common areas of sport and fitness centres when not engaged in physical activity.
