Port Moody seeks input from residents 55+ as it creates plan to become age-friendly community

The City invites residents aged 55 and older, as well as caregivers, to share information and ideas that will help Port Moody become an age-friendly community. Visit portmoody.ca/agefriendly to fill out an online survey today, or pick up a paper survey at City Hall (100 Newport Drive). Surveys must be submitted by November 1, 2019.

Input collected from the public will inform the development of an age-friendly plan to help Port Moody become an age-friendly community – a place where older people can lead active lifestyles, live in security, enjoy good health, and continue to participate fully in society. The plan will help the City of Port Moody adapt its policies, services, settings, and structures to meet the needs of people of all ages and abilities.

The plan will focus on eight themes established by the World Health Organization to evaluate a municipality’s age-friendliness:

  • outdoor spaces and buildings
  • transportation
  • housing
  • respect and social inclusion
  • social participation
  • communication and information
  • civic participation and employment
  • community support and health services

City staff will present a public engagement summary and a draft age-friendly plan to Council for their consideration in January 2020.

Earlier this year, the City of Port Moody received $25,000 through the provincial government’s Age-Friendly Communities Program to create an age-friendly plan.
