Port Moody’s new Official Community Plan will serve as a roadmap for the continued evolution of the community over the next 25 years

Port Moody has a new Official Community Plan (OCP), titled Port Moody 2050, adopted via bylaw on April 28, 2026 (City of Port Moody Official Community Plan Bylaw, 2026, Number 3522). The OCP describes the community’s goals and long-term vision for Port Moody’s future. It guides the City in making decisions related to how land is used for housing, transportation, parks, environmental protection, economic development, and more. The full document, plus convenient links to individual chapters and maps, is available at portmoody.ca/ocp.

“On behalf of Council, I’m proud to share that our new OCP is in place after a thorough and thoughtful process to draft updates and seek community input,” said Mayor Meghan Lahti. “It will be reviewed and updated every five years, as per provincial legislation, to ensure the document reflects changing community needs and conditions. All communities evolve over time, and our updated OCP will help us embrace opportunities for positive change as we take care to shape Port Moody’s future in a responsible way. Infused throughout Port Moody 2050 is our strong focus on climate action and the transition toward a low carbon future, as well as our commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility. I’m confident that the community vision and goals articulated in this OCP will serve Port Moody well over the next 25 years.”

The OCP is the City's principal policy document. The goals, objectives, and policies described within will help the community achieve the following shared vision, which is based on input collected during public engagement:

  • In 2050, Port Moody is a carbon neutral, resilient, inclusive, safe, and vibrant waterfront city of complete and connected neighbourhoods.
  • Port Moody has unique and complete neighbourhoods with diverse amenities within a 10-minute walk, connected by an active transportation network.
  • Port Moody is a friendly, walkable, healthy, and green community that values its natural environment, environmentally sensitive areas, heritage character and assets, parks and recreation areas.
  • As the City of the Arts, Port Moody’s commitment to arts and culture brings residents together through social connectedness, mutual understanding and placemaking.

Port Moody 2050 was informed by input collected via broad and far-reaching community engagement. Through multiple phases, the City sought to provide meaningful, inclusive engagement opportunities for everyone who wished to participate. The input collected was considered during all phases of policy development. Public engagement summaries are available at engage.portmoody.ca.

Prior to the current update, the last comprehensive review was conducted in 2014. The B.C. government now requires that municipalities update of their OCP every five years. However, an OCP is a living document, and specific elements can be amended to respond to changing conditions and values. As we move toward 2050, Port Moody’s OCP will continue to be shaped by the people who live and work here.
