Pay parking rates and hours adjusted in response to occupancy data collected after program’s first year

New pay parking rates, hours, and on-/off-season dates are in effect for the five areas in Port Moody covered by the City’s pay parking program. Visit portmoody.ca/payparking to view a rates table plus a map of pay parking locations. Time limits (maximum parking duration) remain the same in all five areas.

“The City introduced pay parking in September 2024 to encourage turnover at popular destinations,” says Mayor Meghan Lahti. “One year later, staff shared occupancy data with Council as part of a program update. The data showed that parking spaces at Rocky Point Park, Esplanade Avenue, and Murray Street continue to be in high demand on a regular basis, while parking areas at Suter Brook Village and Ungless Way are typically less busy. Based on this information, Council has made some changes to the parking program that will help us continue to encourage turnover where demand is highest. And with consideration for short-term use of parking spaces, particularly in the early morning, we have introduced reduced rates for the first hour in certain areas and implemented a later daily start time for pay parking hours across all locations.”

What’s changed? Here are the details:

Year-round:

  • across all locations, pay parking hours now start at 9am each day instead of 7am
  • the hourly rate has been reduced at Suter Brook Village – it’s now $2.00 instead of $2.25
  • the hourly rate has been reduced at Ungless Way – it’s now $1.50 instead of $2.25

On-season:

  • on-season rates are now in effect from April 1 to September 30 each year (previously June 1 to August 31)
  • there is a new rate of $1.50 for the first hour at Rocky Point Park, Esplanade Avenue, and Murray Street
  • the regular hourly rate (excluding first hour) at Rocky Point Park has increased to $3.75 (from $2.50)

Off-season:

  • off-season rates are now in effect each year from October 1 to March 31
  • the first hour at Rocky Point Park, Murray Street, and Esplanade Avenue is now free instead of $1.50 (after the first hour, the hourly rate continues to be $1.50)

Pay parking was introduced to five areas in Port Moody in September 2024. Hours, rates, and time limits are set out in City of Port Moody Fees Bylaw (Number 3524).

After the program had been in place for one year, parking data was collected and analyzed to determine information such as the average parking demand at each location and the annual revenue generated from the program. City staff, after presenting an update to Council, received direction to report back with proposed changes to parking rates, times, and on-/off-season dates with the goal of managing parking occupancy targets at all current paid parking locations. More information on the approved changes is available in staff’s March 31, 2026 report (agenda item 4.4) to the Strategic Priorities Committee.
