Mark your calendar: Port Moody’s Car-Free Day celebration on St. Johns Street is Sunday, August 16

Save the date! Join us for Car-Free Day on St. Johns Street, between Queens and Moody streets, from 12 noon to 5pm on Sunday, August 16, 2026. This vibrant community celebration is filled with Port Moody businesses, musicians, delicious food, and family-friendly activities.

“Car-Free Day is an annual event that welcomes Port Moody residents and visitors from around the region,” says Mayor Meghan Lahti. “Last year, more than 18,000 people enjoyed the celebration. It’s a wonderful opportunity for local businesses, non-profit groups, and artisans to connect with the community, and for individuals and families to connect with friends and neighbours. I encourage you to leave the car at home and walk, bike, or take public transit to this festive summer street party!”

St. Johns Street will be lined with booths from local businesses, artisans, and non-profit groups. We’ll also have a mainstage with live music and performances, a DJ zone, family-friendly seating areas, food trucks, and extended, licensed patios hosted by local restaurants. There will be something for everyone so be sure to mark your calendar.

Car-free days take place across the country and aim to inspire people to get out of their cars, interact with each other, and explore alternative modes of transportation. The City of Port Moody would like to thank our 2026 Car-Free Day partner, TransLink.

Please note that on August 16, 2026, St. Johns Street, between Douglas and Moody streets, will be closed to all vehicle traffic from 6am to 10pm. Commuters and residents living in the area will be directed to use alternative routes such as Clarke Street.
