2026 property taxes are due – pay on time to avoid a penalty

Property taxes are due July 2, 2026. Be sure to mark your calendar, as unpaid property taxes will be subject to a five per cent penalty after July 2 and a second five per cent penalty after September 15. Penalties apply to all outstanding amounts, even unclaimed home owner grants.
There are a variety of ways to pay your property tax bill:
- online via the City’s website using a credit card (note that a non-refundable convenience fee of 2.2% is added to your total);
- online via your bank’s telephone or internet banking services (be aware of your bank’s online banking business cut-off time – payments made on the due date but processed by the bank after the due date are subject to late penalties);
- in-person at your bank;
- 24-hour City Hall drop box at the rear entrance to the Civic Centre (100 Newport Drive); or
- in-person at City Hall service counter (we accept debit, credit with 2.2% fee, cash, or cheque).
Tax notices were sent to property owners in late May, by mail for those who selected paper billing or by email for those registered for myPortMoody e-billing. If you did not receive your bill, please contact us at 604.469.4503 or email tax@portmoody.ca.

Home owner grant
The home owner grant reduces the amount of property tax you pay for your principal residence. You must submit a new application each year. Submit your application directly through the Government of B.C. at gov.bc.ca/homeownergrant or by phone at 1.888.355.2700 or 250.387.0555. Make sure to claim your home owner grant even if you are not making a payment.
Property tax deferment program
Tax deferment is a provincial government loan program that helps B.C. homeowners pay their annual property taxes. The Government of B.C. is reforming its program as announced in the 2026 Provincial Budget. Interest rates will be increased to Prime plus two per cent and will be compounded. Find program details and applications at gov.bc.ca/propertytaxdeferment, 1.888.355.2700, or TaxDeferment@gov.bc.ca.
