MURB Retrofit Program Highlights

• Opportunity assessment - Get funding up to $5,000 for a consultant to complete a high-level assessment of your building to identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, reduce reliance of fossil fuels, and more.
• Feasibility study Get funding up to $30,000 for a consultant to conduct an in-depth analysis of a specific system in your building to prepare for a retrofit project.
• Rebates for equipment upgrades Reduce the cost of energy-efficient, whole-building upgrades. Includes heat pumps, windows, lighting, water heating and more.
• Rebates for solar panels and batteries Get rebates to purchase and install solar panels and/or battery energy storage to increase your building’s energy independence.
• Rebates for electric vehicle charging infrastructure Get rebates to purchase and install electric vehicle (EV) chargers at your building, and for the electrical upgrades needed to make your building EV Ready.

Program Eligibility: Available to existing multi-unit residential buildings, three storeys or higher, within BC Hydro’s service territory.

CleanBC offers a number of light and medium/heavy duty electric vehicle rebates, for both individuals and businesses. Some rebates are income-qualified, other are available for everyone.

• Passenger Vehicle rebates for individuals (those with an annual individual income above $100,000 do not qualify)
• Passenger vehicle rebates for fleets
• Commercial Vehicle Pilots Program

FortisBC offers various rebates and programs to ease the burden of upgrading to more energy efficient home systems

• Furnace and boiler rebates (income qualified - rebate amount varies on household income)
• Dual fuel system rebate: electric heat pump combined with gas furnace

BC Hydro offers several seasonal incentives and rebates for products that improve the energy efficiency and comfort of your home.

• Room air conditioners and air purifiers (available from May 31 – August 23, 2024)
• Peak rewards (available during “peak time” throughout various time of the year)
• Peak saver (summer edition is available from June 1 – September 30, 2024)

BC Hydro is offering a program to help owners to install EV charging equipment in apartments, condos, and townhome complexes. The programs include an EV charger rebate offer, as well as EV Ready rebates, which help subsidize the cost of planning and installing the necessary electrical infrastructure to support the building's current or future EV charging needs.

Condos and apartments looking to install EV chargers can also get up to five hours of free advice and planning assistance from an expert in EV charging and equipment.

• Rebates available for single family homes
• Rebates available for apartment, condo, and townhouse complexes (communal chargers)
• Rebates available for workplaces

*Above rebates are available to owners and renters.

As of July 23, 2024, BC Hydro is offering rebates up to $5,000 on eligible grid-connected solar panels and up to an additional $5,000 for battery storage systems to qualifying residential customers. You can install solar panels or a battery, or both to maximize the value of your project and your rebate. Click the link below for specific rebate amounts, eligibility, and how to apply.

The SCRAP-IT program offers several incentives and immediate cash rebates, in exchange for your scrap vehicle.

You may want to consider hiring a professional energy advisor to undertake a detailed energy assessment for your home. The energy assessment will rate the efficiency of your home and provide recommendations for retrofits based on their effectiveness for improving your home energy efficiency, reducing your home greenhouse gas footprint and enhancing your home comfort. CleanBC Better Homes is funded by the Province of British Columbia and CleanBC Better Homes rebates are administered by
BC Hydro and FortisBC.

BC Hydro is offering a $200 rebate for eligible single-family home customers who install an EV power management device to avoid electrical service upgrades when adding a Level 2 EV charger at home. This initiative, starting on December 1, 2023, aims to support the adoption of electric vehicles by making the installation of necessary infrastructure more affordable.

Eligibility criteria

To qualify for the EV power management device rebate, applicants must:

• be a BC Hydro customer residing in a detached home, row home, duplex, or mobile home.
• install an eligible EV power management device.
• install an eligible Level 2 EV charger.
• obtain an approved electrical permit (managed by your electrician).
• install the power management device and the charger on or after December 1, 2023. Rebates are not available for installations done retroactively.

Luxury Tax Exemption

• EVs are exempt from the luxury surcharge tax up to $75,000 (compared to $55,000 for Internal Combustion Engine vehicles (gas and diesel vehicles).

Provincial Sales Tax (PST) Exemption

• Used EVs (over 6,000 km) are exempt from the 7% PST.

iZEV program for light-duty EVs

Up to $5,000 is available at the point of sale to Canadian individuals and businesses for the purchase or lease of light-duty ZEVs.

iMHZEV program for medium and heavy-duty vehicles

Up to $200,000 is available at the point-of-sale to Canadian businesses and to organizations for the purchase or lease of medium- and heavy-duty ZEVs. Trucks, cargo vans, shuttles, and other commercial vehicles fall into the medium- and heavy-duty vehicle category.
