Tax Sales
Each year, if required, the City of Port Moody holds a municipal tax sale. A tax sale is a public auction of all properties that have not paid their taxes for three years.
Current tax sales
The tax sale takes place annually on the last Monday of September (unless the last Monday in September is a holiday, then the annual tax sale must be held the following Monday) in Council Chambers at 100 Newport Drive.
The next tax sale date will be September 28, 2026 at 10 am.
Bidding starts at the total of all taxes outstanding, penalties, interest, 5% fee, and Land Title fees.
Potential bidders must be the age of majority (19 or older) in order to bid, and successful bidders are required to provide photo identification, occupation, current contact information, social insurance number (individuals) or business number (corporations).
The successful purchaser must immediately pay the City by certified payment.
Rules and regulations
The purchase of a tax sale property is subject to tax under the Property Transfer Tax Act on the fair market value of the property at the time of conveyance. For full rules and regulations that govern tax sales in the Province of British Columbia, please see the Local Government Act and the Community Charter.
