Paying Your Utility Bill

Your utility bill covers water and sewer services, along with recycling, green waste, glass and garbage collection. Utility rates are set annually and reflect the fees needed to cover the cost of delivering these essential utility services. Current utility rates are listed on this page. Impact of Metro Vancouver budget on local sewer rates

A portion of your utility payment goes to Metro Vancouver to cover the cost of regional water and sewer systems. The Northshore Wastewater Treatment Plant, under construction in North Vancouver, is a major regional project that is affecting local sewer rates.

According to Metro Vancouver, the updated cost for this project is $3.86 billion, an increase of $2.8 billion from the budget established in 2020. This increase is included in Metro Vancouver’s 2025–2029 Financial Plan and affects the budgets of municipalities in the region. As the plant will benefit the entire region by improving the quality of the treated wastewater released into Burrard Inlet, some of the costs are being shared regionally.

For Port Moody residents, the impact of this project on sewer rates is an additional $95 for a single detached home, $90 for a townhome, and $61 for an apartment unit.

Pay your utility bill

The 2025 utility bill was due Friday, February 28, 2025. 

Outstanding amounts after February 28 are subject to a 5% penalty.

A second 5% penalty will be applied to outstanding amounts after March 31, 2025. 

We must receive your utility bill payment by the last business day in February. You can pay your bill using one of the following options.

Late fees

A 5% penalty is applied to outstanding amounts after Friday, February 28, 2025. 

An additional 5% penalty is applied to outstanding amounts after Monday, March 31, 2025.

View your utility bill online through myPortMoody. You will need to register for an account.

By the end of January each year,  your utility bill will be sent by mail or e-bill.

Rate structure based on housing type

Prior to 2022, all residents paid the same flat rate for water and sewer services regardless of housing type. Beginning 2022, rates are determined using a tiered structure, with different rates depending on the type of housing you live in. This change was introduced by City Council with the goal of distributing costs in a more equitable way.

The tiered structure means some residents will pay less and some will pay more, depending on housing type. Although the number of people per household can vary, changes to rates were determined based on the estimated average number of occupants for each housing type. Council also created a new, discounted classification for not-for-profit organizations (previously limited to churches) operating in Port Moody and set water and sewer rates for housing run by non-governmental organizations to be in the lowest tier (along with secondary suites and laneway homes).

If you are a not-for-profit organization and would like to be considered for either of the subsidized rates, please fill out and submit the declaration for review. If approved, the new rates will apply on next year's utility notice.
