Join us May 12 for Mayor’s Town Hall and Community Dialogue on Park Expansion in Moody Centre

Are you interested in long-term parks planning for the Moody Centre neighbourhood? Mayor and Council want to hear from you! Join us for the Mayor’s Town Hall and Community Dialogue on Park Expansion in Moody Centre. This event is happening on Monday, May 12, 2025 from 7pm to 9pm at the Inlet Theatre and Civic Centre Galleria (100 Newport Drive). Registration is not required.
“We want Port Moody residents to provide input as we consider how the Moody Centre neighbourhood will evolve over the next 25 years and how to address the anticipated high demand for park space,” says Mayor Meghan Lahti. “While there are challenges that limit our ability to increase or enhance park space in Moody Centre – such as steep slopes, major roads, and an active railway line – there are opportunities as well including acquiring parkland when possible and delivering new amenities through redevelopment.
“As we plan for the future, it will be important to consider the many forms that parks and green spaces can take, from dedicated public parks and trails to publicly accessibly private parks, further connected and enhanced by pedestrian-friendly streetscapes and nature-based features such as rain gardens and pollinator-friendly plantings. We want to hear your thoughts on Moody Centre – how and why you use parks and open spaces now, and what your needs might be in the future. Please join us on May 12.”
The event will include a presentation starting at 7:15pm in the Inlet Theatre. Attendees can pose questions to City staff, then move into the Galleria for roundtable discussions. Mayor and Council will be present to listen to the dialogue.
Discussions at the event will focus on the following four topics as they relate specifically to Moody Centre:
- current conditions and pressures on parks and how this could change over time;
- what is working well in existing parks and open spaces;
- ideas and examples that could help inform parks planning; and
- how to deliver parkland services (including acquisition, partnerships, phasing, and innovation).
Input received at the event will be considered as we refine the Draft Parkland Strategy, considered by Council on April 22, 2025 (Regular Council agenda item 11.2). The City’s Parkland Strategy will guide long-term parkland planning through 2050 to ensure a well-connected and sustainable park system. Participants’ input will also be considered as we make updates to the Official Community Plan (OCP), Port Moody’s long-term vision for the future. The OCP guides us as we make decisions about how we use land for housing, transportation, parks, environmental protection, economic development, and more. We are in the process of updating the OCP – visit engage.portmoody.ca for more information.
