Your artwork could be on a Port Moody street banner! Submit a banner design by October 10

people painting street banners

We’re currently accepting submissions for community-designed street banners through the City of Port Moody’s StreetArts Banner Program. You’re invited to create a design that follows our selected theme and submit it for review by October 10, 2025. A panel will select 30 designs and if your design is selected, you’ll have the opportunity to paint your banner at the Community Banner Painting Festival in early 2026. Completed banners will be displayed on street poles around Port Moody.

StreetArts is a wonderful program that encourages creativity, strengthens community connections, and adds vibrancy to our streets,” says Mayor Meghan Lahti. “I encourage anyone who may be interested to pick up a pencil, grab an application form, and start drawing. I’m excited to see how our residents bring this year’s theme, the Burrard Inlet, to life in the City of the Arts.”

Adults as well as children six years and older are eligible to participate. Submissions must reflect the selected theme, the Burrard Inlet, and follow the design specifications listed on our application form. The form is available online at portmoody.ca/streetarts or you can pick up a paper copy at City Hall or the Port Moody Public Library (100 Newport Drive), or the Port Moody Recreation Complex (300 Ioco Road).

Completed application forms that include your original design must be received at City Hall (100 Newport Drive) by 4pm on Friday, October 10, 2025. Email your submission to communityartscoordinator@portmoody.ca or drop off your hard-copy submission in person at City Hall or the Port Moody Recreation Complex during regular hours of operation. After hours, hard copies can be placed in the Finance drop box at the rear entrance to City Hall.

In the fall, a selection panel will review submissions and choose 30 community designs. If your design is selected, you will paint your banner at the Community Banner Painting Festival in the Civic Centre Galleria (100 Newport Drive) on January 17 and 18, 2026. Completed banners will be on display in the Galleria from January 19 to January 28, then installed on the streets of Port Moody where they will remain from April 2026 to April 2028. Once the banners are removed from street poles, designers can take their banner home if they wish.

We anticipate a need for volunteers during the festival in January 2026 to fill two roles:

1. Providing support to painters

Volunteers will provide general assistance to community members who are painting their banners. Support may include tasks such as helping to set up, clean up, or refill paint pots. This role is open to those aged 14+. We are seeking five community banner volunteers per day.

2. Painting duplicate banners

Of the 30 banners painted by community members, 15 will be duplicated and displayed in Pioneer Memorial Park. Volunteers are needed to paint the duplicate banners. This role is open to all ages; children aged 13 years or younger who wish to volunteer will require adult assistance. A maximum of two volunteers will be assigned to each banner.

If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out our online form.

The StreetArts Banner Program is an art project that brings art to life on the streets of Port Moody. In addition to community-designed banners, the program has two other streams: student-designed banners, created and painted by local secondary school students; and artist-designed banners, created by professional artists and printed by a banner manufacturing company. Visit portmoody.ca/streetarts to learn more about the program.
