We want to know what you think about our draft Art in Public Spaces Master Plan

The City of Port Moody has developed a draft Art in Public Spaces Master Plan and we want to know what you think about it. Visit engage.portmoody.ca today to read the draft Plan, ask questions, and leave your comments.

Our Art in Public Spaces Master Plan will serve as a five-year roadmap for City staff and the community as we develop and maintain art in public spaces. The Plan will:

  • identify potential opportunities for public art in Port Moody;
  • link with other key planning initiatives, bylaws, and policies;
  • outline governance, funding, and operational policies and procedures for implementing a public art program; and
  • provide a broad guiding and working document with an implementation plan and funding strategy.

Public engagement has been an important part of the Plan’s development. Between April and December 2019, we invited the public to participate in the following engagement activities:

  • pop-up cafés located at Rocky Point Park and at The Shuffle Port Moody Art Walk;
  • a community workshop at Old Orchard Hall that gave residents a chance to discuss goals for public art in Port Moody; and
  • a campaign called “Help Us Paint a Picture” that encouraged members of the public to share their thoughts on public art using sounding boards, large sheets of paper with a guiding question printed on them and space for members of the public to respond in writing or with drawings – boards were located at the Port Moody Recreation Complex, Civic Centre, Rocky Point Park, and the 2nd Annual Port Moody Community Fair.

Priorities and directions identified during the engagement phase and validated through a meeting with the Arts and Culture Committee became the basis for the draft guiding principles and vision for the Art in Public Spaces Master Plan.

Public art is an important city-building tool. It helps to make Port Moody interesting and beautiful, enhances civic pride, and encourages us to celebrate our rich history. It builds our community by having a positive impact on our quality of life and our local economy. The purpose of our Art in Public Spaces Master Plan is to strengthen public art and help Port Moody thrive as City of the Arts.

The full draft Plan is available at Engage Port Moody, our public engagement hub where you can learn about current plans and projects, share your ideas, and provide your feedback. We encourage you to take a look at the Plan and then share your thoughts with us by March 3, 2021. Your input will inform the final draft of the Art in Public Spaces Master Plan, which will be presented to Council for their consideration in spring 2021.
