The CPKC Holiday Train, now in its 27th year, will arrive in Port Moody on Saturday, December 20, 2025. Join us for a free and festive community celebration from 4pm to 6pm at the Port Moody Recreation Complex (300 Ioco Road). Find details below and at portmoody.ca/holidaytrain.

“The CPKC holiday train is an annual tradition in Port Moody, and it’s one you don’t want to miss!” says Mayor Meghan Lahti. “Join us at this exciting event that’s all about gathering with and giving back to our community. Enjoy live music, all-ages activities, and a festive atmosphere while you spend time with family, friends, and neighbours. The CPKC Holiday Train tours Canada in support of local food banks. SHARE Family and Community Services will be a part of our celebration, gratefully accepting cash donations or healthy food items. If you’re able to contribute, your generous donation will stay right here in the Tri-Cities. We hope to see you on December 20!”

This event kicks off outdoors with live music and a roaring bonfire behind the Port Moody Recreation Complex. Inside the Rec Complex, join us for live music and crafts in the Wellness Room, and play time and button making in the gym.

All activities are free; food and beverages are by donation.

Outdoor activities

CPKC Holiday Train
4:50pm-5:45pm behind the Port Moody Recreation Complex (300 Ioco Road)

The CPKC Holiday Train will arrive decked out in thousands of holiday lights at 4:50pm, with a live performance starting at 5:15pm from Barenaked Ladies. There are two viewing areas (see site map): Trasolini Field and the trail that runs between the field and the train tracks. For best sightlines and sound, plus a little more room to move, we encourage you to enjoy the show from Trasolini Field. Please note dogs are not permitted on sports fields in Port Moody. As we anticipate a busy event with limited areas where dogs are allowed, we kindly ask you to consider leaving your dog at home.

The CPKC Holiday Train travels across Canada during the holiday season to raise cash donations and heart-healthy food for local food banks. CPKC is the combination of two historic railways – Canadian Pacific (CP) and Kansas City Southern (KCS). It’s the first and only transnational rail network in North America, moving essential goods across a 20,000-mile network throughout Canada, the U.S., and Mexico.

Bonfire and holiday music
4pm-6pm, behind the Port Moody Recreation Complex

Cozy up next to a roaring bonfire safely maintained by Port Moody Fire Rescue. Listen to live music and grab a cup of hot chocolate, a bowl of chili, or a hot dog (food and beverages are available by donation). Our entertainment line-up is as follows: Abegail Avram from 4pm to 4:20pm, École Moody Middle School of the Arts Choir from 4:25pm to 4:50pm, and Newport Brass from 5pm to 5:15pm and 5:45pm to 6pm. If you are bringing a food or cash donation, please drop it off at the Port Moody Police or SHARE Family and Community Services tents – all donations will stay in the Tri-Cities to help local families in need.

Outdoor activities will take place no matter the weather, so please dress for winter conditions including rain, snow, and/or lower than normal temperatures.

Play time and button making
4pm-6pm, Port Moody Recreation Complex (gymnasium)

If you have little ones with energy to burn, bring them to the gym to enjoy our active play zone. When it’s time for a break, stop at our button-making station to make a holiday button, or take a selfie with a holiday mascot.

Sensory-friendly space
4pm-6pm, Port Moody Recreation Complex (Youth Lounge)

Onsite services include a family-friendly sensory area run by City of Port Moody Recreation staff.

Know before you go: parking and trail closures

Before you head to the celebration, view our site map and take note of parking lot and trail closures. Parking at the Recreation Complex will be extremely limited, with a significant portion of the parking lot fully closed to traffic starting at 5am. Starting at 4pm, pedestrians coming from the Shoreline Trail will not be able to cross over the train tracks using the Trasolini Connector trail. Plan ahead to ensure smooth travel to the event area.

We strongly encourage you to leave your car at home and walk or take public transit instead. Check TransLink’s Trip Planner for transit routes and schedules.

Here are some additional things to keep in mind if you choose to drive:

  • avoid Murray Street between Ioco Road and the Moody Street overpass between 4:45pm and 5:15pm, as the CPKC Holiday Train will temporarily block traffic upon arrival;
  • consider carpooling with friends or neighbours to reduce the number of cars on the road; and
  • consider parking at Moody Centre (Westcoast Express) Park and Ride (65 Williams Street) – from here, you can ride the SkyTrain from Moody Centre Station to Inlet Centre Station, then walk a few blocks north along Ioco Road and turn left onto Newport Drive.
