Statement re. cancelled public hearing (OCP amendment bylaw for Coronation Park)
The public hearing scheduled for April 5, 2022 to consider a proposed Official Community Plan amendment bylaw for the Coronation Park neighbourhood (City of Port Moody Official Community Plan Bylaw, 2014, No. 2955, Amendment Bylaw No. 27, 2021, No. 3285) was cancelled on April 4, 2022 due to an error in the required notifications. The public hearing has been rescheduled for April 26, 2022. Read the public hearing notice at portmoody.ca/publichearing.
The following is a statement from the City that provides additional details about the cancellation:
The City received a public inquiry about notifications for the Coronation Park neighbourhood public hearing on the morning of April 4, 2022, which led to an investigation and the discovery that notifications had not been mailed to all occupants in a new rental building in Suter Brook Village. This meant that our statutory requirements under the Community Charter had not been met and we cancelled the public hearing. We notified everyone who had registered to speak at the public hearing and posted the cancellation on the City’s website and social media accounts in the late afternoon.
The notification error occurred because information on the new rental units was not automatically updated in our online data management system. We want to assure you that we are taking this matter very seriously, and we are working hard to address the issue so that this does not happen again. We are deeply sorry for the confusion and inconvenience this has caused for everyone involved. We are conducting an immediate in-depth review of our processes and online system requirements to ensure this issue is resolved.
