Statement on the passing of former City Councillor Russ Smith
“On behalf of Council, our condolences go out to the family of former City Councillor Russ Smith, who passed away May 30, 2018. Russ had a long history in this city. He and his family lived in Port Moody for nearly 40 years and, as a Councillor from 1982-1993, his passion was always evident. We are thankful for Russ’s contributions to the community – most notably, Russ was instrumental in the creation of the multi-use path along the Shoreline Trail between Rocky Point Park and Old Orchard Park, which is enjoyed by hundreds of Port Moody residents on a daily basis. He was a great friend and neighbour to many in the community, who will miss him dearly. We also offer our condolences to the family for the loss of Russ’s wife Anne, who passed away July 8, 2018.”
-Mayor Mike Clay
The Smith family has planned a Celebration of Life for Russ and Anne, to be held at Old Orchard Hall (646 Bentley Road, Port Moody) on Friday, July 27, 2018 from 1pm to 3pm.
The family has also arranged for a memorial bench to be placed in front of Old Orchard Hall to honour the life and legacy of Russ and Anne Smith.
