Statement from the Mayor’s Office regarding Council tour/learning opportunity

A concern was raised at a Public Hearing on October 3, 2023 that some members of Port Moody Council attended a tour of a development project (The River District) in Vancouver built by Wesgroup Properties and that this tour constituted a Council meeting. As Mayor, I take these types of allegations/concerns seriously and as such, in response, the City sought expert external advice on the matter. While I appreciate that this subject is somewhat complicated, we have considered the advice received, and have concluded that it confirms our understanding that this learning opportunity/development tour did not constitute a Council meeting. Given this, there is no further investigation necessary. 

Port Moody Council conducts its business with transparency, accountability, and strong commitment to serving the best interests of the community and it is in this context that this statement is provided.
