Share your thoughts on the Alcohol in Parks Pilot Project – fill out a community survey today
Do you have feedback you’d like to share about the City of Port Moody’s Alcohol in Parks Pilot Project? Visit Engage Port Moody, the City’s online public engagement hub, to fill out a community survey and/or drop a pin on a map. We want to hear about your experiences in the outdoor public places where responsible consumption of alcohol is permitted.
As a pilot project in effect through December 2023, adults may drink alcohol safely and responsibly in designated areas at six outdoor public places in Port Moody:
- Kyle Centre Pop-Up Park (125 Kyle Street)
- Old Orchard Park (630 Alderside Road)
- Pioneer Memorial Park (275 Knowle Street)
- Queens Street Plaza (Queens Street between Clarke Street and Spring Street)
- Rocky Point Park (2800 block Murray Street)
- Trasolini Field spectator stands at Town Centre Park (300 Ioco Road)
The Alcohol in Parks Pilot Project was launched in July 2022, with minor adjustments made in March 2023. Under the Responsible Consumption of Liquor in Public Places Bylaw Number 3392, alcohol may be consumed responsibly by adults in designated areas between 11am and dusk. Drinking is prohibited in the following spaces:
- within 10 metres of a playground or spray park, except for the picnic shelter area at Old Orchard Park;
- within the Labyrinth Healing Garden at Pioneer Memorial Park; and
- on the beach at Old Orchard Park.
We value your input! Visit engage.portmoody.ca for more information on the Alcohol in Parks Pilot Project. On our project page you can fill out a community survey and/or drop a pin on a map of Port Moody to provide location-specific feedback or recommendations. If you prefer to fill out the survey on paper, you can request a copy at City Hall (100 Newport Drive) during regular business hours. All feedback must be submitted by Tuesday, September 5, 2023.
In late 2023, City staff will report back to Council with a public engagement summary, an evaluation of the pilot project, and recommended next steps. At that time, Council will consider whether to make the Alcohol in Parks Pilot Project permanent.
