Port Moody Mayor invites public to celebrate summer July 27 with free BBQ and live music
Port Moody Mayor Mike Clay invites residents and visitors to celebrate summer with a free barbeque, live music, and family-friendly activities in front of City Hall (100 Newport Drive) from 3pm to 6:30pm on Friday, July 27, 2018.
“Port Moody is the perfect place to be in the summer, with our beautiful natural surroundings and our friendly, small-town feel,” says Mayor Mike Clay. “Come down to City Hall to celebrate the season with your family, friends, and neighbours. Grab a hot dog and enjoy a variety of fun activities, a magic show, and live music from Clavinova Nights and Beauty Shop Dolls. It’s going to be a great afternoon, so please join me on July 27.”
The Mayor’s Summertime Celebration kicks off at 3pm with a free barbeque. Members of the Port Moody Volunteer Firefighters’ Association will be grilling hot dogs generously provided by Thrifty Foods (while supplies last). Beat the heat with a freezie and juice box, say hello to the Mayor, and spend some time with your neighbours.
The celebration will include summer fun for all ages:
- hop around in the bouncy castle, race through the obstacle course, and take a ride down the enormous inflatable slide;
- visit the face painter and caricature artist;
- make a button, take part in the Captain Underpants diaper toss, and make a hilarious face at the superhero photo booth, all put on by the Port Moody Public Library;
- Port Moody’s very own Artist Caretaker in Residence Ryan Mellors performs at 3pm;
- Mike Norden, 2017's Children's Entertainer of the Year, performs his wacky magic show between 4-4:45pm;
- catch performances by the stylishly retro-chic Beauty Shop Dolls between 4:45-5:30pm; and
- Clavinova Nights will cap off the celebration at 6pm with their signature blend of jazz, blues, and upbeat dance music.
Parking will be limited. Members of the public are encouraged to leave their car at home, and walk, bike, or take public transit instead. The Shoreline Shuttle, the City’s free summer-time shuttle bus service, connects Inlet Centre, Rocky Point Park, and Moody Centre. On Fridays, the Shoreline Shuttle runs from 4pm to midnight. For buses operated by TransLink, check their Trip Planner for routes and schedules. If you are arriving via SkyTrain, exit the train at Inlet Centre Station, then walk north on Ioco Road and west on Newport Drive.
