New BC Hydro EV infrastructure at two civic facilities increases access to fast chargers in Port Moody

The City is pleased to share with the community that BC Hydro has installed new electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure at two busy hubs, the Port Moody Recreation Complex (300 Ioco Road) and Inlet Park (3024 Murray Street).

“Supporting the use of zero-emission transportation options is a key goal in Port Moody’s Climate Action Plan,” says Mayor Meghan Lahti. “Many multi-use residential buildings within the city are currently without access to charging infrastructure, a key barrier for residents who may be thinking about purchasing an electric vehicle. Adding public EV chargers in key locations makes it easier for more drivers to switch to electric vehicles. We’re grateful for BC Hydro’s investment in our infrastructure as we continue to support community-wide efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve our air quality.”

At the Port Moody Recreation Complex, BC Hydro has installed four 180-kilowatt chargers and four Level 2 chargers. In total, these eight chargers can accommodate up to 12 electric vehicles. The 180-kilowatt chargers are faster and offer dual charging or power sharing, which allows two customers to use the same charger at the same time (i.e. one 180-kilowatt charger can adjust to provide two 90-kilowatt charging units).

At Inlet Park, you’ll find nine Level 2 chargers that can accommodate nine electric vehicles.

The new charging stations are operated by BC Hydro. EV drivers will need a BC Hydro EV account to access the charging network and to use the BC Hydro EV app. Find more information at bchydro.com.

Together with the City of Port Moody’s public charging stations, which have 13 ports in total, public chargers in Port Moody can now accommodate up to 34 electric vehicles.
