Kyle Centre Redevelopment: Tell us about the types of activities you’d like to see offered at a new community centre

The City of Port Moody is planning for the redevelopment of the Kyle Centre area, and the first step is a conceptual design for a new 30,000-square-foot community centre. Pending future funding, this new space would replace the existing Kyle Centre (125 Kyle Street). The design will also include a new plaza and an expanded park.

Through October 19, 2025, we’re gathering input to inform decision-making on the types of spaces to be included in the proposed community centre, and how those spaces will be used. We want to hear from you about activities and experiences you would like to see offered at the proposed new community centre. Join us at an open house and/or visit Engage Port Moody, our online public engagement hub, to learn more and share your thoughts with us.

How will we use your input?

We appreciate your participation. Community input is a valuable part of our process and is considered by City staff when making recommendations and developing draft plans and strategies, and by Council during their decision-making process. We also consider other important factors such as technical information, advice provided by subject matter experts, available budget, strategic goals, and other plans or strategy documents. Along with community input, these factors help to guide recommendations and final decisions around changes in our City.

Kyle Centre Redevelopment Project – background and next steps

The existing Kyle Centre is an aging facility in an evolving neighbourhood. Recreational needs and trends have changed over the years, and Port Moody’s population is growing. Council has determined that a new, larger community centre and additional park space are needed to serve residents in Moody Centre and the broader community. Please note the addition of aquatic facilities and arena surfaces is not under consideration for the proposed new community centre.

The redevelopment is planned over four phases, with conceptual design as the first phase. Phase 1 also includes site planning and cost estimation for the remaining phases. In early 2026, in a second round of public engagement, the City will ask for general feedback on the recommended conceptual design.

Before proceeding with additional phases, the funding strategy for the redevelopment of the Kyle Centre area will be carefully considered to make sure the project remains financially viable. Pending Council approval of subsequent phases and the proposed funding strategy, the redevelopment of the Kyle Centre area would progress through detailed design of the project site (Phase 2), construction of the community centre and plaza (Phase 3), and construction of the new/expanded Kyle Park (Phase 4).
