Join us at Inlet Park April 13 to celebrate the renaming of Inlet Field to Bob Favelle Field
Join Mayor and Council at Inlet Park (3024 Murray Street) on Sunday, April 13 from 10am to 10:45am for a community celebration to mark the renaming of Inlet Field to Bob Favelle Field in honour of Bob Favelle’s lifelong contributions to soccer in Port Moody and beyond.
After remarks from speakers including Mayor Meghan Lahti, soccer club representatives, and Mr. Favelle, Mayor and Council will unveil a new sign for the field. We invite community members to stop by and listen, then grab a treat and spend some time connecting with friends and neighbours.
“Let’s come together to celebrate Bob's achievements and his deep commitment to soccer and to players of all ages,” says Mayor Lahti. “In December, Council was pleased to change the name of Inlet Field to Bob Favelle Field in recognition of his profound impact on the development of the sport locally, regionally, and provincially. Over the past 26 years, Bob has been a coach, mentor, builder, advocate, and leader, with a unique ability to unite and inspire. This event on April 13 is a chance to honour his legacy and celebrate his impact on the sport and the community that means so much to him.”
Mr. Favelle is a past executive director of Port Moody Soccer Club (PMSC) and a past director of BC Soccer, the provincial sport governing body responsible for the governance, promotion, and development of the game of soccer in British Columbia. He has taken on many roles over the years, steadfastly working to foster inclusion, growth, and excellence in Port Moody and the Tri-Cities, the North Fraser Youth Soccer Association District, and the broader B.C. soccer community.
In his time with PMSC, Mr. Favelle spearheaded the development of an adult soccer program that now has more than a dozen teams for male and female players. This program has provided a structured pathway for youth players transitioning to adult levels, enriching the soccer landscape in Port Moody.
In 2006, Mr. Favelle demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication by organizing a fundraiser – a celebrity soccer match between Hollywood United Soccer Club and Vancouver Whitecaps Alumni – to enhance soccer facilities in the community. This event raised crucial funds that were used to purchase the bleachers overlooking Trasolini Field, behind the Port Moody Recreation Complex.
Mr. Favelle’s exemplary service and contributions to soccer have been widely recognized. He was honored with a BC Soccer Award of Merit in 2003 and a City of Port Moody Sports Award in 2014, and in 2016 he was named a Life Member of Port Moody Soccer Club.
