Give feedback on recommended designs for Rocky Point and Old Orchard Parks Master Plans

We’re drafting a comprehensive update to the existing Rocky Point Park Master Plan and developing a new master plan to guide upgrades for Old Orchard Park. As part of Phase 3 public engagement, we’re seeking your feedback on a recommended design concept for each park. Your input will help us ensure these unique outdoor spaces can continue to support our community into the future. 

Here’s how you can get involved:

• visit our public engagement hub, Engage Port Moody, to learn about the process to date and the recommended design concept for each park;
• attend our information session on Wednesday, May 8, in person at the Civic Centre (100 Newport Drive) between 5pm and 7pm – join us for a brief presentation starting at 5:30pm in the Inlet Theatre, review information boards in the Galleria, ask questions, and share your thoughts with City staff and consultants; and
• fill out our community survey online at engage.portmoody.ca by May 20, 2024.

If you prefer to fill out the survey on paper, you can request a copy at City Hall (100 Newport Drive) during regular business hours, or at the information session on May 8. Your paper survey must be returned to City Hall by May 17, 2024. 

Once we have collected and analyzed your feedback, City staff and consultants will review the recommended design concept for each park to consider what refinements may be needed. Later this year, Council will consider a summary of public engagement results and the full draft master plan documents, which will include the final recommended design concept for each park. 

During Phase 1 engagement in July and August 2022, we asked participants how they use Rocky Point and Old Orchard parks today, and what they want the parks to be like in the future. We used that feedback to develop draft design concepts and proposed actions. 

During Phase 2 engagement in October and November 2023, we asked for feedback on the draft design concepts: three for Rocky Point Park, and one for Old Orchard Park. We also asked participants to share their thoughts on how we should prioritize potential improvements, as it’s not possible to achieve everything. Participants’ input was considered – along with technical information and advice provided by subject-matter experts – during the development of a recommended design concept for each park.

A park master plan is a framework for future planning and decision-making around park facilities, trails, and open spaces. Rocky Point and Old Orchard parks are well enjoyed by the local community and visitors from throughout the region. As the region’s population grows, however, these parks face intensifying usage pressures which can lead to heightened stress on aging infrastructure and the natural environment. The Rocky Point and Old Orchard Park Master Plans, which will include an updated assessment of park spaces and plans for strategic renewal, will guide Council and City staff over the next 10 years. They will help us improve community well-being, social equity, and the resiliency of the parks’ natural habitats.
