Get ready for Election 2022: register to vote or download a candidate nomination package

The 2022 Port Moody General Local and School Board Election is happening on Saturday, October 15, 2022. Visit portmoody.ca/vote to find out everything you need to know. Planning to vote? The City of Port Moody is holding a general election to elect one mayor, six councillors, and two school trustees for a four-year term. City councils and school boards make decisions on issues that directly affect you and your family, like utilities and roadwork, parks and recreation, community development, and the policies and budget for the local school district.   

Get ready to vote  

Advance voter registration for the October election can be done through Elections BC. The deadline to register online is Monday, August 15, 2022; the deadline to register by phone is Wednesday, August 17, 2022 (call 1-800-661-8683 Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm). After these dates, you can still register at the time of voting if you are eligible to vote and have the required identification.  

Registering in advance makes the voting process faster and easier on election day. Registered voters receive important updates from Elections BC after an election is called, including information about where, when, and how to vote.   

Please note the City of Port Moody uses the Provincial Voters List. If you are on the Provincial Voters List for Port Moody, you are already registered to vote in the Port Moody General Local and School Board Election.  

Get ready to run  

Interested in running for office? Candidates must meet the following requirements to run in the 2022 General Local and School Board Election: 

  • be 18 years or older 

  • be a Canadian citizen 

  • be a resident of B.C. for at least 6 months (candidates do not have to live in Port Moody) 

  • not be disqualified by law  

Our information guides and nomination packages for mayor, councillor, and school trustee are available online. Printed copies of the nomination documents can be picked up at the Legislative Services Counter, Main Floor, City Hall (100 Newport Drive). Please phone 604-469-4505 or email elections@portmoody.ca ahead of your pick up.   

Nomination papers must be filed with the Chief Election Officer between 9am on Tuesday, August 30and 4pm on Friday, September 9, 2022. An appointment at City Hall is required to submit nomination papers – please phone 604-469-4505 or email elections@portmoody.ca to arrange a date and time. Completed candidate nomination documents will be posted at portmoody.ca/vote as they are received between August 30 and September 9, 2022.
