Civic facilities to close September 30 to mark National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

City Hall, the Port Moody Recreation Complex, and the Port Moody Public Library will be closed on Friday, September 30, 2022 to mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. 

The day honours the children who never returned home and the Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. It encourages Canadians to commemorate the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools by taking meaningful actions that contribute to reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples. 

We encourage everyone to learn more about the purpose of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation by visiting the Government of Canada’s website and exploring resources related to topics such as:

• the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action;
• Indigenous Peoples and cultures;
• Indigenous languages; and
• Indigenous history in Canada.

September 30 is also Orange Shirt Day. Please consider wearing orange to raise awareness of the individual, family, community, and inter-generational impacts, past and present, of residential schools in Canada.
