City to observe National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

On June 3, 2021, the federal government adopted the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation which is to be observed on September 30 each year. The City of Port Moody wishes to commemorate the history and legacy of residential schools and honour Indigenous communities, families, and survivors by observing this day. On September 30, 2021, City Hall, the Port Moody Recreation Complex, and the Port Moody Public Library will be closed. Recycling and green waste will still be collected.

On August 3, 2021, the B.C. government announced its intention to work with Indigenous leaders, organizations, and communities to consider how to mark this day in future years. In alignment with the provincial government’s efforts to ensure that the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is observed in British Columbia in the most respectful way, the City of Port Moody will consider how to mark this day in subsequent years.
